Approximately 250 attendees celebrated Laguna’s diverse artistic community during a star-studded evening April 1 at Seven-degrees, as The Laguna Beach Alliance for the Arts (LBaa) recognized this year’s stars and paid tribute to arts advocate Dana Gioia at the annual Art Stars gala.
Guests were wined and dined as they enjoyed the big band music of the Laguna Community Concert Band. Awards included the Seven-degrees of inspiration grant to John Barber; Best New Arts Program: Studio Art Classes; Individual Arts Patron of the Year: Bobbi Cox; Corporate Arts Patron of the Year: Bank of America; Outstanding Arts Collaboration: 9/11 Memorial Sculpture “Semper Memento”; Arts Leadership: Robert Hayden III; and Artist of the Year: Jorg Dubin. The Lifetime Achievement in the Arts award was presented to Paul Darrow, a nationally renowned painter, muralist, watercolorist, etcher, photographer, collage and mixed media artist. The winners each received an original one-of-a-kind sculpture created by local artist Louis Longi.
