Restaurants, wineries and breweries came together for the annual Taste of the Nation culinary event supporting No Kid Hungry, a nonprofit working to end childhood hunger in America. The sun peeked out from behind the clouds for the May 17 festivities, which were held on the bluffs at Montage Laguna Beach. More than 500 attendees enjoyed views of the ocean while sampling wine, beer and gourmet cuisine from Los Angeles vendors and popular Orange County chefs including Craig Strong and Lee Smith (Studio at Montage Laguna Beach), Shirley Chung (Twenty Eight Restaurant and Lounge in Irvine) and Greg Daniels (Haven Gastropub in Orange). Hosted by Mark Dacascos of the Food Network’s “Iron Chef America” TV series, the event raised nearly $200,000—enough to fund more than 2 million meals for kids in need, according to organizers. Local beneficiaries this year include Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County and the Community Action Partnership of Orange County. (nokidhungry.org)
