Land artist Jim Denevan will showcase his singular technique at Laguna Art Museum’s Art & Nature event.

Laguna Art Museum’s first annual Art & Nature event will take place Nov. 7 – 10 at several venues around the city, including Laguna Art Museum, Heisler Park and Main Beach. By showcasing the talents of award-winning local and international artists, the event will celebrate the power and influence of art in Laguna, with the goal of inspiring ideas, raising awareness and bringing unique perspectives to the table. “The theme of Art & Nature speaks particularly to the identity of Laguna Beach, which for over 100 years has been a center for art, the appreciation of nature and environmental awareness,” Marni Farmer, director of communications at Laguna Beach Art Museum, says. On July 16, the Laguna Beach City Council selected as the event’s centerpiece exhibitor distinguished land artist Jim Denevan, who uses materials such as sand and soil to create drawings in natural landscapes. Featured in National Geographic and The New York Times, California-born Jim will bring his singular technique to Main Beach for the hotly anticipated oceanfront demonstration. “We’re very excited to have this internationally renowned artist as a major contributor to the event,” says Laguna Art Museum Executive Director Dr. Malcolm Warner. “We’re delighted that the Laguna Beach City Council approved the project so wholeheartedly.” (949-494-8971; lagunaartmuseum.org/artandnature) —K.L.
